Brambles Boarding Kennels

First timers

The first stay in a kennels can be quite daunting – often more so for the owner than the dog!

For this reason we list below a few tips to try to make the experience as painless as possible for all concerned.

When your dog first arrives he will probably be apprehensive. He will see and hear and smell strange dogs and surroundings and all of his senses will be on overload.

His owner will probably have been dreading this moment for some time and the dog will already have sensed their trepidation.

Firstly it is advisable to get your dog settled in his kennel with as little fuss as possible. Any long drawn out good-byes are likely to make your dog feel more anxious than reassured.

Any details regarding food, daily routines, vaccinations, vets, habits etc can then be dealt with.

You are welcome to bring beds, bedding, toys, food, medication etc as you wish and we recommend you bring something that smells of home – maybe a t-shirt or old blanket, to help him settle initially.

Most dogs take to kennel life very quickly and are amazingly adaptable.

We require up-to-date vaccinations, including kennel cough and an emergency telephone number, details of feeding routine, and any medications etc.
